THE KOREAN MARTIAL ART FORM: TAEKWONDO

Hello Everyone!

The weekend is here! TGIF.

Today's topic is: Taekwondo (TKD) or some know it as "The Art of Kicking." Here is the breakdown of Taekwondo: Tae means to "smash with the feet," Kwon means to "destroy with the hands or fist," and Do means "way or method." - Draeger. The founder of Taekwondo and first president of the International Taekwondo Federation is General Choi Hong Hi. Earlier forms of this art are dated back to the Silla Dynasty around 50 B.C. in Korea when Japanese pirates would steal and invade their land. The form was known Tae-kyon; practiced by the Korean military and General Choi before he created Taekwondo. Here are some links if you would like to learn more: History of Taekwondo and General Choi Hong Hi.

I am sure a lot of you have watched Taekwondo in the world Olympics. Here is a fun fact: Taekwondo was became a full medal Olympic sport in the year 2000 but was first introduced as a exhibition sport in 1996. Interesting. Taekwondo is self defense form and can be very effective if practiced right.
